New ‘casts

There are several new podcasts available since I last put a note up here. Max has recorded a couple of MewzikCasts including one that is mostly christmas music last week. However, it’s totally non-traditional Xmas stuff. Go check it out. Also the the Ypsi school board podcasts continue. This week there’s two parts featuring the discussion of the Braves nickname at Ypsi High. Steve Pierce also has a video of the meeting up over at his site.

Sitting in a New York cab

I spent a few hours in Manhattan today. I had to fly in for a meeting this morning and then fly back this afternoon, and I spent more time in the two cabs than I did in the city itself. The cabbie from the airport to the meeting was into left foot braking, but I know for a fact that he never pressed the brake and accelerator at the same time. How you might ask do I know this fact? Because he had no right foot. When he hopped out of the cab at the airport to pick me up, he literally was hopping. His right leg ended at the knee. This was definitely a first for me.

The cabbie on the way back to the airport was telling me about his wife stealing his three kids and how he called a psychic today. Since I wanted to get to the airport in a timely fashion so that I could get home, I didn’t have the heart to tell him what a complete scam telephone psychics are. Poor guy might as well have taken out a match and lit up his $150.

Fortunately the flight from Detroit to La Guardia is only about 1 hour and 40 minutes otherwise the exit row seat I got might not have been such a good idea. I hate sitting in the middle seat of three on airplanes, even if I have legroom. Sitting here in the back of a New York taxi makes me realize that there is no way I would ever want to drive in this city. This may be a great city but it makes Toronto traffic look like a party.

Hypocrite Alert!

Yesterday I was going to the archery range with Max when I spotted a vehicle with a bunch of bumper stickers on I-94 near State St. The cluster of stickers included ones supporting such causes as the John Birch Society, The UN is not your friend and the America First Party. Normally I would immediately disregard anyone ignorant enough to support John Birch, but in this case I felt I had to share something with you. The make of the vehicle bearing all these messages? A Toyota!

Drums

drumsOnce upon a time, Max wanted to be the next John Bonham. We got him some drums and he took some lessons for a couple of months. Once he realized that in spite of his natural sense of rhythm, he would still actually have to practice, he decided to be a singer instead. Hence I have a set of drums sitting in the basement that are looking for a new owner.

Remo Lagero Travelling Drum Kit
22” Bass, 14”Snare
10”,12”,15” Toms
18” Crash, 14”Hi-hat cymbals
All hardware and Cases included
The drums nest inside each other and fit into the case.

They’re in good shape having been used only sparingly since being purchased 1 1/2 years ago. I’m looking for about $300 or the best offer. If you’re interested drop me an e-mail with the contact form at the top of the page.

Is this what America stands for now?

Jose PadillaJose Padilla was held in a naval brig for 3 1/2 years in total isolation, except for his interrogations and now appears to be a broken man. Over on Dvorak.org/blog today I found this:

“Today is May 21,” a naval official declared to a camera videotaping the event. “Right now we’re ready to do a root canal treatment on Jose Padilla, our enemy combatant.”

Several guards in camouflage and riot gear approached cell No. 103. They unlocked a rectangular panel at the bottom of the door and Mr. Padilla’s bare feet slid through, eerily disembodied. As one guard held down a foot with his black boot, the others shackled Mr. Padilla’s legs. Next, his hands emerged through another hole to be manacled

Go over there and read the rest. This case alone should be all the reason that we need to impeach Bush and Cheney and put both them and Rumsfeld on trial for crimes against humanity.

Shadow art fair a success again! 8

water towerCongratulations to Mark and all the other organizers of the Shadow Art Fair! This weekends second edition of the fair was another huge success. Apparently the Corner Brewery was packed all night on Friday, so Jules and I went over there early today, and got some Christmas shopping done. We had some great coffee roasted by John Roos, and picked up a print of the Water Tower from Matt Callow (of pinhole fame). The new mayor, Paul Schrieber, Linda French, and other local luminaries (including a rather odd looking Santa) were all in attendance. It was great to see so many dedicated and talented people being rewarded for their efforts. Afterwards my lovely wife and I had some lunch at the Sidetrack, where I had the best fish and chips around. All in all a great day. Don’t forget to go down to the Sidetrack on Tuesday for Dinner and Drinks to support Growing Hope.
