+Volvo Cars is launching one of the first public tests of autonomous vehicles in Sweden in 2017

Unlike Silicon Valley, Gothenburg, Sweden actually experiences a wide variety of weather such as rain and snow. It will be very interesting to see how well these cars perform in a more realistic environment and how consumers accept those limitations.

Volvo Pioneers Autonomous Vehicles
Volvo has long sold cars that are considered among the safest in the world. Since the 1940s, Volvo has been at the forefront of introducing innovations that include laminated safety glass, crush zo…

2015 Ford Fusion 1.5 EcoBoost

2015 ford fusion se 01Americans love their trucks, SUVs and crossovers with combined sales of all light duty trucks accounting for 52% of sales in 2014. Despite that seeming preference for high-riding vehicles, nearly eight million new cars hit the road last year and among those midsize sedans continue to the biggest share of sales. For more than a quarter of a century, the top-selling car in America has been either the Ford Taurus, Honda Accord and of course the Toyota Camry which has led the way since 1997. Ford launched the second-generation Fusion Into that fray in late 2012 in the hopes of grabbing a larger piece of this lucrative pie. Now approaching the mid-way point of its lifecycle I recently spent a week with Fusion to see if it’s still a strong contender in the segment.

Forget all of the corrupt and/or wackjobs including Hillary Clinton and the entire republican field, America needs Nick Hanauer in 2016

Even if you don't buy into the fairness argument for growth across the entire economic spectrum, Hanauer articulates why the right-wing approach that enables extortionists like Harry Wilson and Carl Icahn to extract all the value from the economy into their own pockets is just fundamentally bad economics.

Column: The biggest scam bankrupting business and the middle class
Corporate profits, as a percent of GDP, have doubled in the past 40 years. But where’s that money going? Not to hiring, paying higher wages or investing in equipment. Corporations are instead using their profits to further reward shareholders. And that strategy, argues billionaire investor Nick Hanauer, is killing America’s economic growth.

Sadly, despite clearly demonstrating what a bunch of dimwits the GOP is populated with, it will probably only strengthen their support among the right wing base

Sen. Tom Cotton’s Letter to Iran’s Leaders Is Brazen, Gratuitous, and Plainly Stupid
It is a useful thing when a political party reveals itself as utterly unsuited for national leadership. This may be the one redeeming feature of Monday’s letter to the Iranian government signed by 47 (or, to put it another way, all but seven) Senate Republicans. The letter—which encourages Iran’s leaders to…

When the original Chevy Volt launched in 2010, they advertised it with the tagline "More Car than Electric"

Now it turns out that GM has effectively acknowledged that Toyota was actually right back in 2007 when they said a power-split hybrid like they use would be more efficient than the series hybrid originally intended for the Volt.

The New Volt: More Hybrid & More Electric
In a somewhat ironic twist on the original and short-lived advertising tagline for the Chevrolet Volt, when the all-new second-generation Volt goes on sale this summer, it will be both more hybrid …

Traditionally, people accumulated wealth by not being careless with their money. Apple apparently presumes that is no longer the case

The baseline 38 mm gold Apple Watch Edition (btw, who came up with the ridiculous naming scheme?) goes for $10,000 and includes the same rubber band you get on the $349 Sport model. If you step up to the most expensive $17,000 version, you get precisely the same watch hardware in the same gold case but with what appears to be a leather band. $7,000 for about six inches of leather with what is presumably a gold clasp? Really?

If I see someone wearing an expensive traditional mechanical watch I can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the creating the intricate movement contained within. If I were to see someone wearing a gold Apple Watch, I'm pretty sure I would look on in disdain, at how this person got snookered into paying 20x as much just to appear more ostentations without any additional functionality other than the obsequious fawning they would get in the store.
