    That really is incredible. I had no idea they lived in such cold areas, too… I'm used to seeing them here in California, but don't think I've ever noticed them on the East Coast. Ours actually live in one of the redwood trees in our back yard. Fortunately we've never had to rescue them.

    Actually hawks are quite common in this area. There is at least one that nests not far from my home and can be spotted regularly. Several years ago, I spotted one by the golf course nearby feasting on one of the ducks that can be found in the pond. http://sam.abuelsamid.com/2005/12/25/hawk-on-the-golf-course/

    More recently, a few weeks ago my wife spotted one hovering over our yard eyeing our hens. It actually swooped down once but didn't manage to snag one. Ever since then the hens have been skittish about being out in the open.
