This is an interesting article about George Hotz (aka geohot) the hacker that cracked the security code of the Sony PS3. While Hotz is an interesting character, perhaps the more interesting part of this tale was the subsequent cracking of most of Sony's websites by online activists angry at the company's legal attack on Hotz.

From a PR perspective, Sony's attack on Hotz and the removal of the ability to run Linux on the PS3 was a colossal blunder. On the other hand the counterattack against the Japanese giant, exposed huge lapses in Sony's online security. While it's unfortunate that so much consumer data was stolen, the hacks against Sony and other follow-on attacks made the world much more aware of how big companies handle security. Hopefully everyone has taken this as a learning opportunity and addressed these problems.

Unfortunately I suspect there are still a lot of big organizations that have not taken the lessons to heart.
