Concours d’Elegance of America 2015

Concours 2015 - 84 of 90Sunday July 26, 2015 was a near perfect midsummer day in southeast Michigan. Under a clear blue sky with temperatures in the low 80s and comparatively modest humidity by the standards of this time of year, some of the most amazing cars in North America were brought together for one of the top three shows in the country, the Concours d’Elegance of America. Now in its fifth year since relocating to the  Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth after a 32 year run at Meadowbrook Hall, this was as always a great show with an eclectic collection of machinery on display.

I've seen at least a couple of different sites today post photoshop renderings of what an open top version of the new Ferrari F12berlinetta might look like. Unfortunately both demonstrate the lack of knowledge of the history of cars that is prevalent in online blogs today.

This car would never ever come out of a Ferrari factory badged as the F12berlinetta Spyder. A berlinetta in Italian sports car taxonomy refers to a hard top coupe. Traditionally an open top version is refered to as a barchetta (as in the classic Rush song Red Barchetta, but I digress).

If Ferrari builds an open top version of its new flagship it will almost certainly be named the F12barchetta.

The Ferrari F12berlinetta! Smaller, lighter and more powerful than its predecessor, what more could you ask for.

With the launch of the F12berlinetta, Ferrari has completed the four year revamp of its entire lineup with the FF, 458 Italia and California that among other things has produced a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency. Now while Ferraris are still among the thirstiest vehicles on the road, the relatively few that are built every year (about 7,000 units) have a pretty minimal overall impact.

Wow! It's always a great day when you wake up to an all-new Ferrari. 2

The home of the prancing horse has just revealed it's new range-topper, the F12berlinetta to replace the 599GTB. This is the most powerful production car Ferrari has ever built with the 6.3-liter V12 generating 740 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque.

The F12berlinetta will be shown publicly next week at the Geneva Motor Show.
