As the last of the 2015 Acura ILXs get sold off in the coming months, there will be no more manual transmissions from Honda's premium brand?
Why there are no more stick-shift Acuras
With the 2016 model year, for the first time in its 30-year history, Acura won’t offer a single manual gearbox. Here’s why.

It seems to me like it wouldn't be that difficult for Honda to grab some of their manual units and shoehorn them into Acuras, though, would it? I mean, if Honda did away with manuals entirely then obviously it's cost prohibitive no matter how you mix and match, but it doesn't seem to me like borrowing a few parts here and there would be all that hard.
Then again, I'm a staunch three pedal supporter, so I'm probably not the most rational person to discuss any of this with.
+Melina M The problem that Honda has now is that the current crop of Acuras are close enough mechanically to Hondas to do manuals, but they are different enough that they would have to be calibrated and EPA certified separately and that's a significant expense. The problem gets multiplied for Acura dealers that have to stock extra parts and tools and with Acura volumes, it just doesn't make sense
The days of the manual transmission are numbered. Computer technology is making auto transmissions shift faster and better than any individual can make happen (even in the hands of a race driver). I notice specs for Porsche Boxsters this year rate the PDK as faster.
That's sad, Honda makes one super smooth manual transmission. Now I wish I could say the same about the automatic ones.
Because Acura hasn't known what its costumer's have wanted for years.
Sorry. A sports car is just not the same without an actual gear box. A gearbox with a computer controlled clutch is one thing eg: Ferrari. A computer controlled slush box is worthless.
Who gives a crap what a forgien company does buy American
It's built in America.
But not an American company why put money in the Japanese economy
Real American buy American and keep our money here
Yeah, but imports also offer jobs to Americans while the domestic offer jobs to mexico and canada.
If we people would not buy import junk the American company's would hire more people .
The DCTs that Honda/Acura make are looking pretty fantastic so far. I bet the manuals will return when the time is right though.
+Mike Woodside?? The crazy truth is most of Hondas operations are in the US, their performance and testing centers are in Ohio, alot of their factories are in Ohio too. There are some more factories in Alabama. Their design studio is in California. All those places support the US and local economies heavily.
I've heard the Detroit Three run their operations out of Mexico. I could be wrong though.
+Logan L yea but the profits end up back in Japan maybe you unamerican people forgot all the Americans the japs killed in pearl harbor
Yeah because the domestics will move all factories back to america and pay higher taxes…..keep dreaming.
+Ryan Young at least we aren't supporting peaple that killed Americans
And how many are directly related to the killing of Americans? Get over it. Besides our government kills people all over the world.
+Ryan Young sure forget it thars easy for you unpatriotic assholes to say all them scumbag japs are the same as the ones that killed Americans at peal harbor
+Ryan Young plus anyone we kill deserves it America is all ways right
I was in the Army for nine years. Your last comment shows how much of a sheep you are.
Honda's "premium" brand. That hasn't been true for almost 20 years now.
+Mike Woodside Wow you brought all this up on a car discussion…?. Anyway i think Acura should bring the manuals back in the future, the reason i think they're getting rid of them is because their not getting any profit from them, maybe 1 out of 10 people buy a manual (in premium brand) and a business can't keep taking risks like that, the Car world has changed so they have to change with it.
I just put a Synchrotec rebuilt tranny in my ep3. Carbon syncrhos and it shifts like butter.
mated to a exedy stage two, three puck clutch.
Newer Honda manuals have drive by wire throttle systems. Which is a horrible idea. Throttle hang kills the shifts. The slight hesitation when "goosing" the throttle. Both things any enthusiast will frown on.
I am not worried about what acura decides to do. if they release a new integra that I like, ill just do an engine swap on it and get any tranny I want.
I'd rather have a honda than American car anyway. More reliable.
The days of manuals may be counted in America but in Europe a manual is always preferred. I don't think this mindset will change too fast.
To be fair, driving manual in NYC is a pain.
+Guillermo Abreu Driving period is lol.
I love driving and would rather drive with a clutch and stick shift.
…and in related news, the used values of otherwise worn out 15 and 20 year old Acuras and Hondas have practically doubled.
At least Honda is still selling manuals
