Having worked in both open and closed offices in my career, I can absolutely say that open space sucks!
Take a walk through a typical open office and count the percentage of people wearing headphones or ear buds. People in an office need their space. The only justification for open offices now to pack more people into a smaller space. ?

YMMV – I have been far more productive in the two open-office jobs I have been at than anywhere else.
I find them to be noisier and more full of distraction. I worked at a start up where management tore down cubes just so they could see your screen at all times.
Productivity didn't increase, but morale dropped.
