To anyone that is even remotely tech savvy, release windows have long since ceased to be even remotely relevant

If season 2 of Downton Abbey hadn't been such a disappointment, we likely would have already seen even before it's broadcast here in the US just as we did last year. As it is, we probably won't bother this time. Nonetheless we and tens of millions of others around the world have watched plenty of other programs when they were first broadcast rather than waiting for some arbitrary release schedule. Just consider how many people have downloaded Game of Thrones (which we did pay for with our HBO subscription).
