I'm looking for some alternate labels for developer (as in software) for something I'm writing. I've thought of coder, programmer, hacker but I'm also looking for broader terms that describe what devs do these days besides just writing code. Thanks for your thoughts.

Software analyst
designer? ninja? superhero? code wrangler?
"Hacker" is not properly an alternative label for "developer"
What's wrong with just calling yourself a developer? That's what +John Hostile and I call ourselves.

+Melina M there's nothing wrong with it, I just don't want to keep repeating the same word so frequently. I want to mix it up a bit.

Dev's write code and design software…..it's what they do. No reason to hide from the truth.

Well if you want to mix it up, might as well get creative! So how about:

code guru, method man, funky functioneer, object operator, variable environmentalist, loop-do-looper, haskellian hatcher, ruby forger, stringer of perl, python wrangler, soldier of source-ery, bug exterminator, the guy who feeds all those monkeys and repairs their typewriters, a nerd's nerd, Knuth-ian apostle, keyboard commando, gnutonian scientist, one-who-knows-it's-not-quite-butter-but-it's-close-enough-and-deadlines-are-looming-so-ship-it-and-patch-it-later, vimproviser, or you could just go easy on yourself and just keep saying developer because there's no shame in using words people already understand because this isn't some sort of high school english essay, is it?

+Sam Abuelsamid then don't say redundant things over again. It's like trying to write dialog between two people; if you can force yourself to just keep using 'say' it ends up not bother people as much as you might worry and avoiding ridiculous sentences like people whistling paragraphs through their teeth or grinning out their puns.
