Imagine carrying around a bunch of shrapnel in your leg for nearly 70 years

"Mr Brown told loved ones he still had a 'bullet' in his leg and asked his grandchildren not to sit on his knee because of the pain it caused. But when he died last week aged 94 his family had him cremated and were stunned when staff handed them back a big bag of shrapnel."

Weighty memento: war veteran’s secret revealed after his death – Telegraph
The family of a war hero only discovered the full weight of his bravery after his death when his cremation left behind a huge pile of shrapnel.

And the DeltaWing is ready to rock the Petit Le Mans

For the second time 4 years, the Highcroft Racing crew has had to work round the clock to rebuild a car from scratch following a practice crash.  Check out the time lapse!  Here's the 2009 version http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/27/patron-highcroft-team-builds-new-acura-prototype-in-just-over-20/

Here's an old Eastern Airlines commercial for their then-new Boeing 727 that touts it's quietness.

I had the unfortunate experience of flying on Northwest’s 727s between Detroit and Phoenix a few times in the early 90s before they were retired. Quiet is not a word I would use to describe the 727, especially the time that I was unfortunately relegated to the very last row in coach, right between the three engines. That many well have been the longest 4 hours of my life.

+Tim O'Reilly gets it exactly right and +Leo Laporte has been saying this for years as well. All the hand-wringing about Google, Facebook and even advertising tracking cookies completely misses the real potential problem.  The ones we should be worried about are the internet service providers which today is almost exclusively our cable and phone companies. Even if you disable all cookies, use private browsing and erase everything after you're done with a session, every single page request you make goes through your ISP's server.

"We're able to view just everything that they do," Verizon Wireless exec has boasted.  This is why all the government focus on privacy issues at Google and Facebook seems so wrong-headed.  There are a lot of companies that have just as much data or more about what people are doing, and who  are exploiting the hell out of it while getting a free pass from regulators.

While this is almost certainly not illegal, it's certainly unethical 16

That said I wouldn't try to ban anyone from encouraging others who to vote for because that would also affect those that I support and free speech is more important than control.

What must happen is that we eliminate these tax-exempt super-PACs and also require full disclosure of all donors and how much they are spending.  Everyone should have the same opportunity to speak, but we should know who is trying to buy our elections.

Finally, this case involves the National Federation of Independent Business which broke off from the US Chamber of Commerce because they thought that organization was "too progressive"

There's something about the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta that must give the Highcroft Racing crew nightmares. During a practice session on Wednesday, the innovative DeltaWing crashed, doing heavy damage to the car. The incident was eerily similar to Scott Sharp's crash in the run-up to the 2009 race.

The damage to the Acura ARX-02a that Highcroft was campaigning then was even more extensive than the damage this time including a cracked tub. Honda Performance Development air-freighted a fresh carbon fiber tub from California to Atlanta and crew went to work, basically building a whole new car in just 20 hours putting it back on the track in time for the Saturday morning pre-race warmup. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/27/patron-highcroft-team-builds-new-acura-prototype-in-just-over-20/

This time around, the team expects to be back on track later today.

BTW, driver Gunnar Jeanette walked away from this, again demonstrating how well modern race cars protect their occupants.
