Getting the oil changed and the guy shows me the dipstick and says the oil is dirty. Of course it's dirty I've been driving it for 5,000 miles. If it was still pristine it wouldn't need changing!
The oil condition is exactly as it should be, not sludge and still lubricating. A little dirty is normal

It is just his effort to continue to make you believe oil needs changing at 5000 miles. There have been amazing advances in synthetic oils over the last couple of decades meaning oil changes are occurring way too often. Its a scam.

You don't change the oil yourself? I'd be way too nervous if I took it to a lube shop; heard way too many stories of those places not actually bothering to change the oil or filter, or using the wrong weight oil or something. I also don't trust people who are clearly trying to scare me into buying something or doing it more often, which is what it seems this guy was trying to do to you.
