    They're not stupid. The mainstream media is a afraid. The GOP strategy starting with Reagan was to label any media outlet that presented a critical, unflattering or even asked difficult questions of GOP policy as a having a liberal agenda. This effectively silenced all debate in the mainstream media in this country.

    In their attempts to be fair, and unwilling to be labeled as having an agenda, the mainstream media has been cowed into giving every right wing blowhard an open forum for whatever they want to spew.

    So, the media aren't stupid, just cowards.
