Personally, I think it was the message behind the quip that resulted in the speaking ban, not the words used. The whole "no means no" part heavily alluded to a snarky rape remark, which is just poor taste, especially from a representative.

1) A person that has a penis, male, is trying to control that of a person with a vagina, female, with legislation.

I am a liberal who leans democrat only because the basics of the party are in alignment with my own opinions. For example i am a firm believer that company's need regulation and lots of it. I however lean heavily away from regulations that would infringe on individules. It is my opinion a good regulation should effect as many coperations as possible while leaving personal choice as open as if it did not exsist. I know if makes people feel better about over regulation and excessive taxation on corporations if we think of them as human-less entities existing solely to generate a source of funding for people who don't want to generate funding for themselves. But it simply is not true. Corporations are made up of people. If you remove the people from a corporation what do you have? Vacant buildings and paper. Try getting taxes out of that.

When it comes to abortion, it's the woman's right to choose. I can understand banning late term abortions because if you are too stupid (or fat) to know you have a child growing in you by month five, you should not be breeding nevermind making life choices for others. In this situation, they should take the kid once it's born and give it to a family who can't have kids, then sterilize you to prevent it from happening again because we all know it will happen again.
It is much easier to" surgically prevent" men from impregnating women with fewer complications and much more cost effective.

So… returning to the original post… the representative who is supposed to represent all people (both sexes) of her constituency crossed a line. The people she aimed her comment at were not directly interested in her particular sexual anatomy (which, ironically, took over 100 comments in this thread to correctly identify that where human fetus develop is actually the uterus, but I digress). The line that was crossed was inappropriate speech for any person acting in that capacity, male or female. People in such a position should be held to a higher standard, both in word and deed; both sides of the aisle, regardless of party affiliation. With that comment, she stopped being rational and needlessly complicated the topic. It's not so much about women's health as it is about human life. I think that the modern version of the Hippocratic Oath is a minimum standard that all healthcare practitioners should uphold at all times (check it out on Wikipedia if you are not familiar with more than "do no harm"). The power to take life does not constitute neither the obligation, nor the right. I think that focusing on the rights of others to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should be our primary objective, not only as Americans, but as human beings. Whether you are religious or not, human life is incredible, even miraculous! As such, it should be highly regarded and protected. The fact that so many individual cells and systems can work together to not only be a living entity, but one that is self-aware and capable of more than any other living thing. Think about it, we as humans have the ability to end all life on this planet or to extend it for millennium, possibly on other planets in our solar system and beyond; again, I digress. Human life, when does it begin? Maybe if we can define that we can have a starting point from which to protect. I think all people consider an infant out of the womb as being a protected human being. So, working back from that towards conception, what should be protected as human life? At birth at full 9-month term? But, what about infants born prematurely? That could be possibly 26 weeks or less (full term being considered 38 weeks, if I'm not mistaken). I propose that a heart beat be considered human life, as a minimum, because if I intentionally end the heart beat of an adult or a 4 year old, I would be considered a murderer, by even the staunchest pro-choice supporter. So, at a minimum, can we agree that if there is a heart beat that it is illegal to intentionally end it without due process afforded to all other human beings? What about before a heart beat? What is that mass that is undergoing rapid cell division? I have heard it referred to as merely cancerous growth. I dare say that can't be the case. All cancers of which I am aware do not turn in to infants after approximately 9 months of uninterrupted growth. However, this does not allow for the protecting of life of the mother if there is medical emergency. Ectopic pregnancies come to mind. In short, (I guess it's too late for that) there are times when it is the woman's health that takes precedence, but not every time. I believe that prior to the presentation of the choice in question, there have been other choices made (yes not always every time), namely to be sexually active in the first place, secondly to be sexually active during the prime time for conception (which, considering a 28 day cycle spans at most ~7 days), also both partners being capable to conceive is another choice. If none of these choices were made by the woman (or couple, as applicable), that's a possible consideration, which is still not cut and dry considering that it is still a human heart beat. There are other couples that can't have kids, so we should look into making it less expensive (not necessarily easier) for these people to adopt. Sorry for such a long post, but this is not a topic that can be decided by merely saying you can't touch my body. Your rights end where another person's begin. If it is solely a matter of "I choose the [fill in action(s)] of what happens in [fill in location]" then there is no wrong.

You need to understand that once a woman makes a decision to have sex (with the exception of rape, whole nother story) its not just about her anymore, as any parent will tell you.
+Karin Karejanrakoi right, we just don't get it, look the point is if there were a pill that cured ED but every time it was used someone would die, would it ever hit stores? Could we just say you have no idea how it feels to have that? You can't justify murder just by making it a sexism issue. Even though killing off every person with a mental issue would probably benefit society, we wouldn't do it. A woman can do whatever she wants with her body, not with her babys body
I don't agree with abortion as a contraceptive but I disagree even stronger with the Republicans not allowing insurance companies to add contraceptives, making ALL types of abortion illegal and allowing people to suffer and die from either diseases that contraceptives treat or forcing a woman to term despite emergency circumstances where one or both(usually both) will die if the baby isn't taken out. Many, not all mind you, but many Pro-Lifer Republicans believe that if a baby is taken put before the 'due date' that's abortion. It doesn't matter whether or not both mother and child could survive or at least the mother. To any who would say "So?" or "It's God's will for them to die!" I am the face of that possible future child that could have existed if you're beliefs hadn't killed the mother. My mother nearly died carrying my older sister back in '81 because at six months she had high blood pressure, low platelets and numerous other medical issues and the doctor at the time refused to take my sister out in an emergency Cesarean. They did everything to make sure my sister was as developed as possible before taking her. She still refuse swearing it was abortion. Luckily she was in a Naval hospital and the General kicked out that doctor and replaced her. If that hadn't happened I wouldn't be here. My sister lived for six months before dying at the hospital that she was transferred to. That is why I believe that no one has the right to tell me or any other female what to do with our bodies.
