If HBO maintains its obstinance on going cable/satellite only, we may well end up… 1

If HBO maintains its obstinance on going cable/satellite only, we may well end up seeing the content creators start to simply bypass HBO. HBO doesn't have a monopoly on great ocntent. They passed on Matthew Weiner's pitch for Mad Men and there are many other great shows out there including Breaking Bad, Spartacus, Nurse Jackie, Dexter and Shameless.

The success of the Kickstarter model could provide a means for producers to crowdfund projects before they get produced. The a la carte model will utlimately win out and leave the traditionalists in the dust.

This debate will end eventually I swear. In 5 years, when everyone is on our side of it.

Nick Bilton weighs in on the “HBO is a slave to cable” debate. I'm actually getting sick of talking about this. There are those of us in the camp that believe HBO is foolish, and there are those …

completely agree. let me put it this way. I wanted to watch game of Thrones. NOT HBO. I wanted to watch True Blood. NOT HBO. I wanted to watch Dexter…and Weeds… NOT showtime.

I don't have cable. I have netflix, I have roku, I have computers, and I have a good internet connection.

I looked HARD for ways to watch these shows that didn't involve me handing money to a dying business model bent on destroying my beloved internet freedoms. I wanted to PAY for them. I'd pay willingly.

I'd buy the damn shows online directly if I had to one season at a time… I do that, actually with DVD's (not bluray, that's crap too)

I wait for a season to end then I watch them all, one after the other…
I will go and buy a dvd of these shows when they become available, and store them, unopened, like I've done with every other thing I've liked. Because well, I do that.

but I don't wait more than a day after a season has ended to watch the shows.

Game of thrones is AWESOME btw. Can't wait to buy the dvd and thank the guys that made it… watching the second season now.

If they had a website I could download legally from, I'd be handing them money now.
