Groovy up your bedtime with this VW Bus Bed
Filed under: Classics, Etc., Volkswagen, Design/Style

As a car-obsessed tot, your author used to snuggle up in his bed, pretending he was taking a long road trip in a Volkswagen camper van. The fantasy went so far as to include a small fan so there would be a constant rhythmic chatter similar to the air-cooled flat-four that helped build the Volkswagen name. While pure imagination capably transformed a twin bed into a Westfalia-trimmed Type II on a nightly basis, a user over at Instructables…

Hopefully this means that future Motorola phones will stick closer to stock Android rather than continuing to apply skins as Sanjay Jha has been saying recently. With any luck it might also mean a speedier process for updates.

Have I mentioned my affinity for huge quantities of torque recently? If I had the cash, I'd love to have one of these in my garage. Alas, I will make do with the paid-for car for a few more years.

Some interesting moves over at +General Motors today

Some interesting moves over at +General Motors today. A few weeks back Tom Stephens announced that he was retiring after a long career with GM. Today, the company announced that Alan Taub, who is currently VP of Research and Development will also be retiring.

Jon Lauckner, who is acknowledged as one of the two fathers of the Chevy Volt, will be replacing both Taub and Stephens, becoming Chief Technology Officer and VP of R&D. In addition to his new roles, Lauckner will continue to oversee the GM Ventures, the venture capital fund that the automaker established in 2010.

Unfortunately, American politicians have no need for facts when it comes to legislating especially on so-call "law and order" issues like drugs.

Yesterday I posted a short note about news I assumed most people hadn't heard. The resulting conversation has been amazing, and overwhelmingly civil. This is one reason why I find G+ so useful.

Who'd a thunk it!

Who'd a thunk it!

Reshared post from +Steven Levy

America is now in a weird space where one candidate for President is warning us of the influence of Satan and the state of Virginia (hm) is legislating a form of punitive medical rape for women considering the difficult but legal choice of abortion. And now I see this clip: the president of the US hosting an all star blues band with BB King and Mick Jagger, and belting out "Sweet Home Chicago." I thought that nothing could top the previous Obama rock video of this sort, Bob Dylan singing the Times Are A Changing. But take a look at this. If someone had previewed this clip for me when I was in college protesting the Nixon regime, I would have gone into shock. In a good way.

It almost makes me forgive Tim Geithner. Almost.

I have to say that I'm very skeptical that tesla would put out a battery that could be bricked in this way although anything is possible. Degusta is not necessarily someone I'd be willing to believe on a story like this without double checking.

I'll be very curious to see what my friend +John Voelcker learns from tesla and owners. If this is true it will severely damage +Tesla Motors reputation

Update Voelker has an update, Tesla acknowledges the need to keep the Roadster plugged in, although they have not acknowledged if customers have had to pony up for new batteries. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1073289_tesla-battery-bricking-the-real-story-behind-the-post

As with almost anything that spews forth from the mouth of Newt Gingrich and his colleagues, the words are generally little more than misinformation and outright lies.
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/gingrich-you-cant-put-gun-rack-in-volt

You clearly can put a gun rack or even several bales of hay into a Chevy Volt.

High Gear Media's resident gun expert, Kurt Ernst, said experienced firearms instructors (he is one) consider gun racks "a really, really bad idea" in general.

Guns openly mounted in vehicles pose an obvious and severe theft risk.

And the racks are aftermarket accessories, of widely varying quality, whose significant weight and sharp edges can be dangerous in a severe accident.

But in today's Republican politics the truth should never get in the way of a good tirade.
