After guiding +Ford Motor Company through one of the most difficult periods in the history of the auto industry, Alan Mulally is retiring and passing the baton to Mark Fields who will take over as CEO on July 1?

Ford Motor Company [NYSE: F] announced today that Alan Mulally has decided to retire from the company July 1 and Mark Fields will be named Ford president and chief executive officer and elected as a member of the company’s board of directors.

Don Sherman takes a look how +Ford Motor Company selectively used some cast iron in the new aluminum-intensive F-150

The all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that will probably be the mainline engine in the F-150 uses a cylinder block made of compacted graphite iron, a material previously only used for diesel engines. The choice of CGI allowed the engine to be lighter and smaller overall while still withstanding the pressures of twin turbocharged operation in a truck.?
