If the British government invades Ecuador's embassy to haul away Julian Assange — and Ecuador says that's precisely what has been threatened –the UK government would be doing more than flouting international law.

It would also be announcing open season on its own embassies around the world — including places where some bad people would love to get a peek into the British government's activities. 

Here's hoping that the UK backs away from this precipice.
