Netflix has great original series that aren't getting the attention they should including Peaky Blinders

I hadn't heard of Peaky Blinders until a week ago, but we've burned through two seasons in recent days. Everyone is talking about House of Cards and Orange is the New Black and this ranks as good as or better than those.

The story is kind of a mix of The Godfather and the Sopranos set in post-World War I Birmingham, England. The primary arc of the Shelby family's elicit business is set against a sub-plot of the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Cillian Murphy portrays protagonist Tommy Shelby, the decorated war hero that has come home to take control of the family business and attempt to take it legit (remind you of anyone?) while also going toe-to-toe with the loyalist Ulster police/military officer Chester Campbell. The despicable Campbell is brought to life by Sam Neill.

It's hard to cheer for a character whose business brings so much misery to so many lives, but as in all great storytelling, Murphy's Tommy Shelby is a complex character that has a tremendous storm boiling  just beneath the calm surface. Similarly as we learn more about Inspector Campbell, we learn why the Irish republicans have fought so hard for so long against those loyal to the British monarchy.

So far there have been two six episode seasons and they are well worth watching. ?

Seriously? It's way past time to cut bait on this turkey

Seriously? It's way past time to cut bait on this turkey?

The F-35 program continues to work through a litany of problems, but this one is almost laughable. According to the USAF, the troubled fighter cannot use gas from standard green colored USAF fuel trucks if it has been sitting in the sun. Considering that these jets will most likely find themselves operating in the desert or in somewhere in the scorching Pacific, this is a big problem.

If you can't afford a $100,000 Tesla Model S (and let's face it the vast majority of us cannot) you probably really shouldn't even consider an EV unless you have a dedicated place to plug it in daily.

In his article Alex Davies even mentions the people that carry the charging cord with them and plug in surreptitiously to accessible 110-volt outlets when they can't find a 220-volt charger.  This isn't really practical most of the time because the charge rate at 110 is slow that a Nissan Leaf will take 30 hours to fully charge.  For many people an EV is a great option, but it's definitely not for everyone. ?

Until the public infrastructure improves, people who can’t plug in overnight are in for a very serious headache.

Once upon a time, F1 designers were actually allowed to use their imagination to innovate

Of course many of the most successful innovations end up getting banned sooner rather than later, but at least they had the opportunity to try. As an aside, Keke Rosberg's F1 championship in 1982 was one of the clearest cases ever of "to finish first, first you  must finish"?

No, that picture up top is not some kind of weirdo photochop. It’s a real prototype F1 car, the last six-wheeler. Oddly, it set few a track records, though it never raced.

Business Insider took a look at origins of Tesla Motors

I covered a lot of the same ground in my own past writings about the company, but this pulls together a lot the material in one concise narrative. Tesla almost certainly wouldn't have ever made it to production without Elon Musk, but it was hardly a one man show.

Tesla Motors probably shouldn’t exist. The…

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto won't be arriving in new cars until sometime well into 2015 but will be welcome when they do

Fortunately, most automakers seem to be taking a platform agnostic approach and incorporating both interface layers so that drivers can use the device of their choice.  I'm partial to the +Android cards interface but iOS users should feel comfortable with what Apple is offering as well.  Either way it will probably be superior to what automakers offer. ?

Went out to grab a couple of last minute items from Whole Foods this morning and successfully managed my first Google Wallet tap to pay transaction

It worked smoothly and I noticed from the recent that Google Wallet actually generates a one-time use card number on the fly for each transaction, which should aid security.?
