I'm an empathetic person, but frankly, why is the crash of a flight from Kuala Lampur to Beijing, national "breaking" news in the US?
Certainly to people in Malaysia and perhaps China, this story is relevant. However, for American-based cable news networks this is not about informing the populace, this is nothing more than disaster porn. This is precisely what's wrong with today's mainstream media. ?
BREAKING: Malaysia Airlines 777-200 Missing Over South China Sea at NYCAviation
Malaysia Airlines has lost contact with a 777-200 flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, carrying 239 people.
There 'was' 2 Canadians aboard
It's better than hearing about some Hollywood crap..
You realize there is a huge Chinese population in the US, right? Seems like pretty valid news to me, especially compared to how the media has been obsessed with the Oscars for the past two weeks.
It's a large airplane with lots of people on board. There were people of many nationalities involved, and the plane is made by an American company.
If there is an oil slick nearby then the chances are the aircraft went down.
+Ervin Tomlin the plane would have run out of fuel by now anyway. You are right, though.
Valid or not, our news channels suck.
They are already calling the incident a "possible terrorist attack" and the "deadliest in the last 13 years", so why wouldn't it be on the news all the time is more of a question.
US has been on a anti-terror crusade, since early '02, not to mention that an American citizen did die there, with his kids as well.
People have been known to enjoy violence and gore since the beginning of times, bloody scenes give them more viewers so, most news channels get hyped up over a story like this.
+g00dl00kinb0i It's too bad that people tend to jump to conclusions so quickly!
+Nick C. Yeah……but with news channels it's more of a "get them (us), glued to the TV with the most dramatic plot possible" deal, than the real story, most reporters might not even believe their own news as it's interpreted. Since the plane is still missing, the terrorist angle should not be even mentioned yet, now it's more logic to assume that ET's abducted it 😀
But I guess a scared nation is an obedient nation :]
