Markets are only actually free if both parties to the transaction are equally aware of the conditions

I've never had the opportunity to use Uber, but those that I know who have tell me its a great service. The one complaint I consistently hear about is the surge pricing.

I don't have an issue with surge pricing in principle. Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick has the right to charge whatever the hell he wants for his service. However, he also has an absolute responsibility to make sure customers know how much they will be charged before they agree to the transaction.  New York cabs post the pricing per mile in the vehicle where potential passengers can see it.

Similarly, the Uber app should show how much a ride will cost with absolutely no obfuscation, before the passenger says yes.

Unless both parties to a transaction are equally informed, it's not a FREE market.?
