While it's certainly nice that Apple wants to give its users a consistent experience, as long as they control iOS and the hardware it runs on they can assure the out-of-box experience is predictable. This is unlike the +Android experience which can vary widely depending on which brand of phone you buy.
However, Apple could do its users a huge favor by simply allowing them to change the default apps the way Android has done since version 1.0. Whether it's browsers, mail clients or keyboards, let people select the apps they want to use.

Not going to happen — I would argue that iron-clad control over their platforms is the one thing that has defined Apple for all but its beginning, when the Apple 2 was rather open in terms of both hardware and software.
You're probably right and that's why I will continue to use Android devices
Then again, you've got a lot of people who like using a more locked-down model. I'm not one of them, but ask around and I think you will find many people who want to live in the Apple bubble.

The difference in market share and how they have been going seem to clearly show which philosophy has more customers. That isn't to say that you can't be a niche product that is very profitable — nobody suggests Ferrari should introduce a $30k sports car or make them suitable for everyone.
+Anton Wahlman Apple can still provide their preferred default setup and anyone that prefers that is free to use it just as Samsung buyers can stick with Touchwiz or HTC buyers can stay with Sense. But why prevent those that want to tweak from having the opportunity. You could even have a one button reset that takes you back to stock
