I do not understand the combination of standard front doors and wing doors. Wing doors might be good for the show and sliding doors might be a challenge optically but bottom line the important piece is the sizes of the opening itself. Take the Ford B-Max as an example. Great idea and well done without a B-Frame but still difficult due to lack of opening. Also to what degree do wing doors reduce the amount of parking space needed compared to sliding doors. It seems to me that they are not that much of an improvement over classic door concepts.
It's more about design than a functional advantage
but if it is about design, why not have a wing door covering both portals, front and back?
I didn't say it was a good design
The thinking behind the falcon wing doors is that you can easily access the third row with the cutout in the roof, all while acting like a sliding door because the door moves vertically while opening before moving out horizontally.
There's a good animation of this on the Model X page a third of the way down. http://www.teslamotors.com/modelx
While we await the Tesla Model X, I spent 1,247 miles driving the Ford C-Max Energi recently, after over 20K miles in the Volt. My comparison test published here, especially the 1,100 endurance test at close to 75 MPH: http://www.thestreet.com/story/11812757/1/endurance-test-ford-c-max-takes-on-chevy-volt.html
