Android's system wide sharing function, means we don't have to wait on Google or anyone else cut deals with the likes of Twitter or Facebook the way Apple does

When an app is installed, it can be added to the system-wide share menu so that any app capable of sharing content can use it as a destination. Even though Instagram doesn't have G+ sharing built in, I can just tap the share button on any photo and send the photo to my stream.

A lot of people take this feature for granted, but when you spend any time using other (ahem) more restrictive mobile platforms, you realize just how valuable it is.

Android’s (quiet) killer feature
It’s no secret that Android has lots of good stuff going for it, but one of the platform’s most useful and distinguishing features is one you rarely hear discussed.

The Boeing 787 continues to be a case study in how not to run a complex product development program

A program like this should be structured to get the best product first and satisfy the finance guys second.

James Surowiecki: The Trouble with Boeing’s 787
The Dreamliner was supposed to become famous for its revolutionary design. Instead, it’s become an object lesson in how not to build an airplane.

It's been a big week for fuel cell vehicle announcements 1

This morning +Ford Motor Company, +Nissan and Daimler announced that they would collaborate on developing a new generation of more affordable fuel cell propulsion systems for vehicles debuting as soon as 2017. This announcement follows last week's announcement that +TOYOTA and +BMW would launch a similar collaboration.

I've long been a proponent of hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative to batteries for propelling zero-emissions vehicles having driven my first one back in 2006   http://aol.it/VhzTls. The fuel cell technology works and it's mainly a matter of optimizing the designs to reduce manufacturing cost and working out a distribution system.

The partnership between Ford and Daimler is a natural fit since both have long used fuel cell stacks from Ballard Power Systems. When Ballard decided to focus on stationary power systems a few years ago, Daimler bought the automotive division of the company with Ford taking a minority stake.

The other automakers that have remained publicly committed fuel cells are +Hyundai Worldwide, +Honda and to a lesser degree +General Motors. GM has been pretty quiet on the fuel cell side in the last couple of years since winding down Project Driveway http://aol.it/ViFkyP and sending the Chevy Equinox fuel cell vehicles to Hawaii.

Not so long ago, design nerds called everything that +Google built ugly, not so anymore!

Frankly, Apple has been uglifying most its apps on both Mac and iOS for years now. Nice to see the shoe on the other foot as +The Verge takes an in-depth look at Google's new design ethos.

Considering how much News Corp and Rupert Murdoch whine about others "stealing" their content you might think they would at least give credit when they do the same, but Nooo!

As usual big media companies SUCK! Pay back Fox by not watching Glee and buying Jonathan Coulton's version of the song instead https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Jonathan_Coulton_Baby_Got_Back_In_the_Style_of_Gle?id=Bz6xpxirclmoo36f637ehkwljqq&feature=nav_top_albums#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDUsImFsYnVtLUJ6NnhweGlyY2xtb28zNmY2MzdlaGt3bGpxcSJd

I've been reading a lot about fair use and copyright lately, mostly for the new gig. Then the whole Glee and JoCo debacle happens.  It really is all about attribution and acknowledgement.

So buy the re-release for charity! http://www.jonathancoulton.com/2013/01/26/baby-got-back-glee-style/
