Jonny went to the AMG factory in Affalterbach to build one of the lovely 6.2-liter V8s that go into high-performance +Mercedes-AMG models and it was captured on video. A few years back I went to nearby Wixom, MI to build a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 for a Chevy Corvette ZR1

After watching the +Motor Trend Magazine video I see that the build process is pretty much the same as what you'll find at the GM facility or the special line Ford has at its Romeo, MI engine plant for Shelby GT500 engines. Each of these marvelous pieces of machinery are built by individual technicians who affix a plate with their name at the end of the line.

I remember reading your article about the LS9 engine back in the day. It was one of those posts that just stuck with me and made me rethink what should go on my bucket list of things to do before I die. I probably won't get a chance to work on an LS9, but I'd be happy with any decently powerful engine.
Well if you buy a ZR1 or Z06 GM gives you the option to go Wixom and build the engine for your car. I'm not sure what the plan will be with the launch of the C7 next year. I'm guessing the Z06 and ZR1 may be on hiatus for a year or two.
Do you happen to know if they do it for the CTS-V too? I was fortunate enough to drive one a few years ago, but I doubt the average owner would have much interest in building the engine for one.
Unfortunately no. The performance build center only assembles the dry-sump engines for the ZR1, Z06 and the manual gearbox Grand Sport. I think the LSA for the Camarao ZL1 and CTS-V comes from either the Flint or Tonawanda engine plants.
