Why are we allowing our government to negotiate trade agreements in secret? This should be a transparent process.

Belief in Bad Science, or Bad Politics?
Romney seeks endorsement from creator of "can't get pregnant" nonsense

Maureen Dowd repeats what I posted earlier about the sheer ignorance and perfidy of the Ryan-Aiken legitimate-rape crowd, but with more venom and eloquence.

Dowd: "Paul Ryan, who teamed up with Akin in the House to sponsor harsh anti-abortion bills, may look young and hip and new generation, with his iPod full of heavy metal jams and cute kids. But he’s just a fresh face on a Taliban creed — the evermore antediluvian, anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-gay conservative core. Amiable in khakis and polo shirts, Ryan is the perfect modern leader to rally medieval Republicans who believe that Adam and Eve cavorted with dinosaurs."

… "Mitt, who was for abortion rights (except for Mormons he counseled) before he was against them, in his last presidential bid went after the endorsement of Dr. John Willke, a former president of the National Right to Life Committee and father of the inanity about rape victims being able to turn back sperm if they put their mind and muscles to it.

"The nutty doctor hypothesized: “This is a traumatic thing. She’s, shall we say, she’s uptight.” Adding, “She is frightened, tight, and so on. And sperm, if deposited in her vagina, are less likely to be able to fertilize. The tubes are spastic.”
.

Just Think No
Why do Republicans have a gender gap when they ascribe superpowers to women, like the ability to block rape sperm with sheer willpower?

Unfortunately, tech is hardly the only subject where newspapers and other mainstream media don't bother to do much analysis or fact checking.  Automotive stories are frequently taken at face value whether they are positive or negative.

Just as in tech, many of the writers don't have much in-depth knowledge of the industry or subject and much of what is produced is regurgitated press releases.

Why Newspapers Lie

There are certain newspaper topics where you’ll find an institutional, unwritten agreement that it’s OK to skip the fact checking, avoid the investigative reporting and throw journalistic standards out the window.

Technology is one of those topics where newspapers feel free to lie.

And when newspapers lie, who publishes the truth? Usually bloggers.

If you think I’m exaggerating, I’ll give you examples:

For owners of the +Fisker Automotive Karma, BLEEDING EDGE seems to be the operative term here even for seemingly basic functions like the navigation and Bluetooth. Asking people to stand around for up to two minutes waiting for the cooling fan to shut off before plugging in seems like a major engineering oversight.

Leaked Document Shows Fisker Has More Issues Than Fiery Cars
The Fisker Karma is a lovely car. It’s long, low, striking, and sort of looks like a couple of mermaids going at it in a sleeping bag. It also costs over $100 grand, and has certainly had its share of…
