Hysterical, but I still want to know, why the hell is #dressage in the #Olympics since it's clearly not really a sport and and certainly doesn't involve any actual athleticism. More importantly, why the hell is Mitt Romney or anyone else getting tax breaks to fund dressage!

Colbert Report: Stephen’s Dressage Training Pt. 2
Stephen dons dressage gear, learns how to piaffe and wins Michael Barisone’s competition tiara.

I don't really have a problem with equestrian sports, but they've been part of the Olympics for over 100 years.  I have to imagine these dressagers, though, must really hate all the extra attention, given that it hasn't exactly been positive.

+Aaron Berlin Croquet was once an Olympic "sport" but I'd argue that while it is a game, it's no more of a sport than playing Clue. There have been plenty of events that have come and gone from the modern Olympics since 1896 and I believe it's long past time to dispense with equestrian events.

+Sam Abuelsamid It depends on your definition of "sport".  If contest is judged only by the timer (and the amount of blood lost), then no, dressage is not a sport, but if contest is judged by skill and effort and comparison of that effort to others, then yes, it is a sport.  And if you doubt the effort, please come take a lesson from me.  I will keep you safe, and give you a small example of the skill and effort it takes to maneuver a 1500#+ animal around a 20×60 meter area completely in partnership and on your desire.  🙂
