Leaf sales are sluggish, to be sure. You left out the part that Tesla still expects to deliver 5000 cars this year, though.

$37000 is the problem. Not many are going to buy this at that price point. It's the same with the Volt. I agree with the article that under $25000 is the "sweet spot".
I would buy a Volt if it didn't cost as much as a Lexus.

+Chris McDonald In my state Leaf is around $24,000 including the $5,000 state tax rebate so I am lucky and I have that sweet spot. I just wish they had a more sporty version of Leaf. Can't wait for Infiniti LE. I would recommend using a True Cost to Own calculator and you will see that neither Leaf nor Volt are close to the cost of owning a Lexus (alright, the small hybrid electric Lexus CT is close but still not as cheap).

Values I pulled out of there:
2012 Nissan Leaf SL: $33,970 (so I guess that's closer to $28,970 in my state, depending on how they calculate it)
2012 Chevrolet Volt: $40,258
2012 Lexus IS 250 (What I am assuming you thought of when comparing to price of Volt): $53,337

That $33,970 was for Nissan Leaf SV. The SL version is $35,262, but still…
