How Far Will the Cadillac CT6 PHEV Go On A Charge? Probably 32-34 Miles

cq5dam.web.1280.1280Since Sunday’s announcement in Shanghai of the Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid, there has been some interesting discussion and speculation about how far the car will go on a full charge of its battery and what sort of energy efficiency it will achieve. Cadillac and GM officials have declined to get specific about technical details beyond the limited information in the U.S. press release. However, the release on GM’s Chinese media site lists 37 miles.  Let’s take a look at where the EPA estimate will likely end up.

Cadillac Announces the CT6 Plug-in Hybrid in Shanghai

As we saw so clearly at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, any brand that wants to stay competitive in the premium vehicle segments needs to aggressively adopt electrified powertrains. At the Shanghai Motor Show today, Cadillac joined the crowd that already includes Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. GM’s top brand already revealed the full-size CT6 luxury sedan with conventional gasoline powertrains a few weeks ago at its new hometown show in New York. In China, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen is highlighting a new plug-in hybrid powertrain that will in all likelihood find a home throughout most of the brand’s lineup.

2015 Cadillac ATS Premium – It’s Way Better Than the Caddies I Grew Up With

2015 Cadillac ATS 01

For 2015, the Cadillac ATS and the rest of its siblings have abandoned the wreath surrounding the crest

Paraphrasing one of the last tag-lines from the now defunct Oldsmobile, “the 2015 ATS is absolutely not your father’s Cadillac, and that’s a very good thing.” In fact this ATS is the antithesis of what Cadillacs were when I was growing up in the 1970s and ‘80s.
Back in those days, Caddies defined the term land yacht. Actually aircraft carrier might have been a more apt description. When I was high school in the early-1980s, a friend of our family stopped by our house one day to show off the new Caddie that he had bought himself as a retirement gift after putting in his 30 years in one of the local steel mills.

Anyone foolish enough to think that real men don't drive station wagons needs… 3

Anyone foolish enough to think that real men don't drive station wagons needs to check out this video starring my friend +Jonny Lieberman. Jonny pits two of the most amazing wagons on the planet against each other with over 1,100 hp between them. Why anyone would opt for something as silly as a BMW X6M

or even a Porsche Cayenne instead of one of these beasts should have their head examined.

The old Chinese proverb/curse about living in interesting times has certainly played itself out here in Detroit over the last several years with the emphasis on the curse side.

Thankfully, we're seeing light in the tunnel these days and things are looking up from a product perspective. With the official opening of the 2012 Detroit Auto Show less than 48 hours away things are looking very interesting again in a really good way.

Unofficially, Cadillac will kick off the festivities on Sunday night with a reveal of the new ATS sports sedan that will be streamed live http://www.livestream.com/badertv

On Monday morning the focus shifts across town to Ford when it reveals the all-new Fusion. Check that out here at http://FordFusionStory.com.

Back in 2007, Cadillac unveiled a 2.9-liter V6 diesel intended for the European market… 1

Back in 2007, Cadillac unveiled a 2.9-liter V6 diesel intended for the European market CTS. The company was seriously considering bringing it to the US market as then Cadillac general manager Jim Taylor told me in late 2007 http://www.green.autoblog.com/2007/12/11/we-may-yet-see-cadillacs-new-2-9l-v-6-diesel-in-the-us/

They even showed the diesel V6 in the original concept version of the CTS coupe at the January 2008 Detroit Auto Show http://www.greenfuelsforecast.com/ArticleDetails.php?articleID=427

Unfortunately the financial melt-down and bankruptcy put the kibosh on both the V6 and the 4.5-liter light duty truck V8 diesel. Both engines however are ready for production and could be revived. I suspect that GM will look at how well the upcoming Cruze diesel does before making a final decision.
